CIT offers three certificates open to all people -
Ministry (in conjunction with the Diocesan Adult Education Network - AEN),
Scripture, and
Maori Theology and Spirituality. The modules of these certificates may all be taken on their own or as part of the certificates. They are opportunities for learning and personal faith growth at a level suitable for those who have not previously studied aspects of their faith beyond secondary school.

Certificate in Ministry (Offered by the Diocesan Adult Education Network and administered by CIT) Who is the Certificate in Ministry for? - Anyone with an interest in a deeper understanding of their faith, the scriptures, spirituality, the church and ministry. All modules may be taken by those who have little previous experience with formal theological learning.
- All those who are active in parish life - liturgy planners and committees, bible study groups, readers, eucharistic ministers, parish councils, parish teams, visitors to the sick, leaders of prayer and communion services, prayer groups, liturgical musicians, social justice groups, children's liturgy leaders, children's religious education catechists, RCIA leaders et al.
What is the Certificate in Ministry?
The contents of the various modules offer basic understandings of Catholic faith and practice in the foloowing areas: scripture, sacraments, liturgy, theology, church, ministry formation and pastoral care.
Requirements - 80 hours of course attendance (normally 10 or more modules)
- 40 hours of study including the writing of 8 reflection papers. Papers are 1000-1200 words showing that the participant understands the content of the related module and is able to apply it to her/his life and ministry
- Core modules (for which reflection papers must be written) are as follows:
- 736.b Understanding the Catholic Church in Aotearoa New Zealand
- One module which attends to personal growth
- Choice of two scripture modules
- Choice of two modules other than scripture
- Free choice of remaining modules. Some Maori Theology and Spirituality Certificate modules may also be credited to the Certificate in Ministry.

Cross-credits - up to 20 course attendance hours, by permission, from relevant prior learning with written assessment, e.g., other certificate, degree courses.
All Modules - may be taken individually or as part of the full Certificate.

Certificate in Scripture (Offered and administered by CIT)
This Certificate is offered for all people who want a deeper understanding of Scripture, including those involved in parish education programmes, RCIA and scripture study groups. All liturgical ministers, especially ministers of the Word, as well as teachers and parents are encouraged to complete the Certificate.
The certificate requires 80 hours of course attendance and 40 hours of personal study and assignment-writing, including 8 reflection papers (or equivalent) of 1000-1200 words each. The reflection papers show that the participants have understood the content of the related module and can apply their learning to their own lives.
Modules accredited to the Certificate in Scripture include all those in the 731 series, 733.d, 735.e, 733.f, and some other modules by permission where the focus of the reflection paper is primarily on Scripture.
Certificate in Scripture modules given in the parishes normally cost $20.
Up to 20 hours of course attendance and the equivalent of two reflection papers may be cross-credited from other relevant prior learning with written assessment (including courses from the Certificates in Ministry and Religious Education, diploma or degree courses).

Certificate in Maori Theology and Spirituality (Offered and administered by CIT)
This Certificate has been designed for:
- people who want a deeper appreciation of Maori Theology and Spirituality, but may not speak the Maori language (Te Reo)
- people who want a working understanding of biculturalism in Aotearoa New Zealand
- teachers, parents, health workers and other professionals, and people from all walks of life
This Certificate offers:
- a basic understanding of key concepts in Maori Theology and Spirituality
- an introduction to basic Maori terms
- experiential learning
This Certificate involves:
- 72 hours attendance at the following modules, which will be repeated over a three year cycle (for full descriptions, please follow the menu to the left):

- 8 Reflection Papers. A Reflection Paper consists of 1000 - 1200 words, showing that participants have understood the content of each module and are able to apply this learning to their own lives.
The venue for all modules is the Marae at Te Unga Waka, 7A Clyde St, Epsom, Auckland. The first session of each module will begin with a powhiri for those who have not previously been welcomed on to this Marae. The cost is $80.00 per module.
The modules of this Certifcate build upon each other, so once a cycle is underway, new students are advised to wait for the start of a new cycle.
